About Velo Window
Velo Window is a free cycling weather forecast tool that answers the question every cyclist asks before a ride: "Is today actually a good day to ride?"
Most weather apps give you raw numbers — 68°F, 12 mph wind, 30% chance of rain — and leave you to interpret them. Velo Window calculates a single 0–100 ride score based on the conditions that actually matter for cyclists: temperature, wind speed and gusts, precipitation, and (for off-road riders) recent rainfall affecting trail conditions.
The score is personalized for your ride type:
- Road cyclists see wind weighted heavily — headwinds and crosswinds dominate road riding experience.
- Gravel riders get a balanced score that considers both road conditions and trail surface dryness.
- Mountain bikers see recent rainfall weighted highest — wet trails are bad for both your ride and the trail itself.
- Commuters see precipitation weighted most — getting to work dry is the priority.
Velo Window also identifies the best 3-hour riding window for today and tomorrow, so instead of staring at a 24-hour forecast trying to find a good slot, you get a direct recommendation: "Saturday 9am–12pm is your best window." The 7-day outlook fades after day 4 to honestly reflect that long-range forecasts are less reliable.
Forecasts are powered by Open-Meteo, a free open-source weather API with global coverage. Maps are by Leaflet and OpenStreetMap. No account is required, no data is collected beyond what your browser stores locally for your preferences.
